At lunchtime parents have two choices for your child:
1) have a hot school lunch, or
2) bring in a packed lunch
At lunchtime, all children will be supervised by the midday supervisory assistants.
We have an onsite kitchen and mid- day meals of excellent quality are prepared by Thornford School Meals Club. Hot schools meals need to be ordered a month in advance through Parent Pay. Menu sheets are available online .
Hot school dinners are currently £2.50 a day. All infants are entitled to free school meals. If you are in receipt of pupil premium you will be entitled to free school meals (see below).
Packed lunches should be sent in a small separate bag/lunch box. The contents of your child’s sandwich box are left for parent’s to decide although we ask you to respect our healthy eating agenda. We kindly request that children do not have sweets or fizzy drinks. All uneaten food will be returned home at the end of the day so that you have a clear picture of what your child is eating.
Please do not send in nuts as we have children with allergies therefore we are a nut free zone!
All infants are offered free fruit or vegetables. KS2 children should bring in a healthy snack.
Children up to their fifth birthday are entitled to milk free of charge.
Children over the age of five years are able to apply for a carton of milk to drink during the mid-morning break. Applications for milk need to be made on line to Cool Milk and details on how to apply are available from the school office.
We encourage every child to bring in a drinks bottle containing fresh water every day. They also have access to drinking fountains and are able to drink water throughout the day. Dehydration has been proven to negatively affect children’s ability to learn.
To apply for pupil premium simply telephone Dorset County Council on 01305 221000 or apply online.
You will need to provide your name, National Insurance number and your child’s name and you will be told instantly if you are eligible and what to do next.
