School development plan- Summer 1- 2026

We are continuously working to improve our school so that every child feels safe, supported and successful. Below is a clear overview of our key priorities this term and what this means for your child. We are continuously working to improve our school so that every child feels safe, supported and successful. Below is a clear overview of our key priorities this term and what this means for your child.

1. Behaviour Expectations: “Ready, Respectful, Safe”
We are introducing a simple, shared set of behaviour expectations across the school:
Ready – prepared to learn
Respectful – kind and polite to others
Safe – making good choices

What we are doing:
Listening to children’s and staff’s ideas
Updating our behaviour policy
Teaching expectations in assemblies and lessons
Displaying reminders around the school
Sharing guidance with parents

What this means for your child:
Your child will clearly understand what is expected of them and will see consistent behaviour standards across the whole school.

2. Rewards and Consequences
We are making our rewards and consequences clearer and more consistent.

What we are doing:
Asking pupils and staff for input
Creating a simple flowchart explaining rewards and consequences
Teaching this system to all children
Regularly monitoring how it is working

What this means for your child:
Your child will know what happens when they make good or poor choices, helping them feel secure and motivated.

3. Clear School Routines
We are strengthening everyday routines so that school runs smoothly.
Key routines include:
Moving calmly around the school
Using polite manners
Being ready to learn each morning
Keeping classrooms tidy
Using agreed signals for attention (e.g. “3, 2, 1”)

What we are doing:
Agreeing routines with staff
Teaching and practising routines with children
Monitoring consistency across the school

What this means for your child:
Clear routines help children feel confident, reduce disruption and maximise learning time.

4. Presentation in Books
We want all children to take pride in their work.
Focus areas:
Neat handwriting
Using rulers correctly
Carefully sticking work into books
Keeping books tidy and undamaged

What we are doing:
Teaching presentation skills
Checking books regularly
Giving feedback to staff and pupils

What this means for your child:
Your child will develop pride in their work and strong learning habits.

5. Focus on Foundational Knowledge
We are prioritising foundational skills (reading) during Summer 1 to ensure every child makes good progress.

Our goal:
Every child will read with an adult at least once every week.

What we are doing:
Setting clear expectations for staff
Tracking reading regularly
Recruiting volunteers to support reading
Making time for reading in the timetable

What this means for your child:
Your child will receive regular reading support, helping to build confidence and improve skills.

6. Reviewing and Improving our plans
Following recent feedback (including Ofsted), we are reviewing and strengthening our policies.

What we are doing:
Updating our behaviour policy
Sharing drafts with staff and governors
Making improvements based on feedback

What this means for your child:
We are committed to continuous improvement to provide the best possible education and environment.

Working Together
We believe that strong partnerships with parents are essential to your child’s success. We will continue to keep you informed and provide guidance so that we can work together to support your child.
If you have any questions or would like to get involved (for example, supporting reading), please contact the school.

Thank you for your continued support.
