Ofsted rates St Andrew’s ‘Good’ across all areas!
Following a visit from Ofsted in September, we are delighted to announce they have rated us as ‘Good’ across all areas, with Ofsted saying ‘pupils are at the centre of this inclusive village school’.
Ofsted commended our school saying ‘parents are very positive about the nurture, care and academic support their children receive’ and ‘the whole school community has high expectations of each other and what everyone can achieve’.
It is quite the turn around for the school, after a visit in 2016 rated the school as ‘requires improvement’. Headteacher Julie Simpson joined in 2018, and has led the school on a journey of rapid improvement, whilst establishing a school culture of being caring and compassionate.
We are proud to be a designated ‘Trauma-Informed School’ with our staff trained to support children who suffer with trauma or mental health problems, and whose troubled behaviour can act as a barrier to learning. Ofsted praised the good behaviour at the school, and the tailored support provided to pupils with special educational needs.
Headteacher Julie Simpson said, “We have all worked very hard to improve the provision and outcomes for our children so we are delighted with the outcome of the Ofsted inspection. We are pleased to note the very positive comments in the final report and we will continue to do our very best to serve the children and families of St Andrew’s School”.
St Andrew’s Primary School is part of SAST, a multi-academy trust with 17 schools across Dorset and Somerset. SAST CEO Colin Sinclair said, “We are absolutely thrilled that Ofsted have agreed with our view that St Andrew’s CE School is a good and improving school. The whole community should be very proud of the achievements of Julie Simpson, Headteacher, and her team, in creating such an inclusive and successful school environment”.
